France is the land of wine. Hotel Le Littré offers wine tasting evenings, to learn how to savor and choose between the different grape varieties. Whether you are passing through Paris or living in the neighborhood, discover the wines, their history and their pairings.
Learn to taste wine
Oenology is a discipline that has more and more followers. You don’t have to be familiar with wines to appreciate a grape variety. Getting together for a wine tasting is also a festive and social activity, to be shared with family or friends. Take the opportunity to discover little-known wines, rediscover classics or savor exceptional bottles.
Each time, an oenologist will come to share his knowledge, around a region or a grape variety. Burgundy wines, Bordeaux grands crus, Loire wines… Do you know which type of wine you prefer?
The wine evenings are organized according to different themes:
- around a wine-growing region, for example Burgundy, through several appellations (Chablis, Côte-de-Nuit, Côte-de-Beaune, Mâcon, etc.);
- around a grape variety, such as chardonnay or pinot;
- around a domain, in order to discover the full range of one or more producers;
- around the same wine, through the vintages, a wine tasting that takes you back in time!
Grapevines in Paris?
As surprising as it may seem, there are vineyards in Paris. The oldest and most famous is that of Montmartre, but there is also one not far from Montparnasse, just a stone’s throw from the Hotel Le Littré. In the 15th arrondissement, in Georges Brassens Park, grow over 700 vines of Pinot Noir are grown, Perlette and Pinot Meunier. These vines bear witness to the capital’s wine-growing past from the Middle Ages. Each year, since 2011, more than 250 bottles of this “Clos des Morillons”, maintained by the municipal services of the city of Paris, have been auctioned, for the benefit of local associations.
A little further, in Bercy, the Yitzhak Rabin garden has also, since 1996, been welcoming more than 600 m² of sauvignon and chardonnay. There are also vines at Buttes-Chaumont and Belleville.
Both oenology courses and wine tastings, the genial wine evenings at Hotel Le Littré are an opportunity to discover this universe rich in flavors and history in the cosy private bar of the hotel, the Vérandabar.
